The European Solidarity Centre in Gdańsk is an institution of culture, whose objective is to preserve, commemorate and spread the legacy and message of "Solidarity" and the democratic anticommunist opposition in Poland and in other countries. The goal will be pursued by organising fixed and periodical exhibitions, by running educational activities pertaining to modern history, by operating scientific and research functions and by collecting and securing material relevant to the legacy of "Solidarity" and freedom movements.
We would like to see our activities give subsequent generations the opportunity to draw from the wealth of "Solidarity" and enable their upbringing in its ideas and with respect for its tradition. We therefore set out on a great adventure, yet we cannot start by ourselves.
We have been called to preserve and propagate all that every single participant in the ten-million-strong Solidarity movement experienced and achieved. We therefore kindly ask you to support the programme of gathering souvenirs associated with the democratic anticommunist opposition operating in Poland in the period 1970 - 1989, especially those that have something in common with Solidarity.
The goal of this action is to secure the memories and accounts by witnesses of that period through personal souvenirs and documents, letters, photos, film and audio recordings, posters, books and journals, occasional albums, official correspondence and documents, occasional stamps, seals, printing presses (underground) and other items that together comprise the heritage of Solidarity.
It is impossible to name all the potential items that may become exhibits. Should you decide to donate your collection, rest assured that it will be carefully secured and stored with utmost care, scientifically described in accordance with current regulations, and incorporated into the Centre's resources. The collections will be on display in fixed and periodical exhibitions and they may be used for scientific and educational purposes, unless you declare otherwise. Should you refrain from donating them, we would be grateful if you would let us register and archive them.
